Being a Republican women's organization in Marin County is a challenge. Marin County is definitely NOT a Republican-friendly zone. Formed in 1962, with more than 180 members and 30 associates, the Novato RWF thrives in "enemy territory" and meets the challenge.
During election years, NRWF hosts Republican candidate forums, invites candidates to speak at luncheons, ramps up voter registration & precinct walking, and works at and watches the polls on Election Day. Club members serve on the Central Committee, and one member serves on the County Election Committee.
Education, active citizenship and community service increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government, and Novato Republican Women endeavor to improve upon that each year.
In the past year, NRWF awarded $5,000 in scholarships to a local college-bound high school student and five cadets in the Marin Air Force JROTC, donated flags and books to schools, and continued their special story time with preschoolers.
The club's popular monthly luncheons have featured speakers from the Cato, Hoover and Pacific Research Institutes, as well as local and state candidates.
Community service includes troop care packages, Valentines for Vets, contributions to the CFRW All Terrain chair for disabled veterans project, and participating at Veteran's and Memorial Day ceremonies.
And finally, the "F" in Novato RWF is not merely for "federated" but for "fun." With their shotgun training, wine tasting, movie nights and fantastic Fashion Show featuring Barcelino of Sausalito, they do have fun.
