Officers of Boulder City Republican Women donate this dollhouse, which was built and furnished by members of the club, to the Las Vegas Fisher House in February.
Boulder City Republican Women
Boulder City Republican Women (BCRW) was chartered in 1981.
Boulder City is home to a veteran's nursing care facility, as well as to the Southern Nevada Veteran's Cemetery. As a way of thanking our veterans and active duty military, BCRW worked with the City of Boulder City to have a corner near the veteran's cemetery designated as a memorial. The city forester designed the layout, while we located the supplies and collected donations. BCRW designed and provided the marble marker which reads, “Freedom is not free. Our gratitude to those who have served our country. Boulder City Republican Women.”
Once completed, we petitioned the city to change the name of the street to Veterans Memorial Drive. The City Council approved our request unanimously. BCRW maintains a wreath at the memorial that is changed monthly, and special wreaths are made for all major holidays.
Our current project is supporting the Las Vegas Fisher House. Member Bernice Delabarre built a beautiful dollhouse to donate to Fisher House. Club members collected $400 to completely furnish it (including a Golden Retriever on the front porch). In February, we donated it to the Fisher House. We were assured by the Fisher House staff that the children would love it. At our October membership meeting, we will collect food to stock the house's pantry for the holidays. We look forward to many more opportunities to assist such a wonderful charity.
Even while insuring our veterans are not forgotten, we've been busy with the upcoming elections. We've invited the candidates or their surrogates to our meetings so that members and guests can make an informed decision in the elections. BCRW, in partnership with other Boulder City residents, was crucial to the success of our Nevada Republican Caucus on February 23. BCRW has been busy in the community registering voters, as well. BCRW continues our commitment to Constitution Day by providing the needed materials to ensure our kids are taught about our most important legal document. We are also partnering with a local fifth grade history and government teacher to provide her with the resources needed to properly educate future citizens.
