In May, Brunswick County RW presented the 2016 Jackie Iler Memorial Scholarship to Michelle Eddinger and Emily Tyson, pictured here with President Mary Stilwell and Judge Pauline Hankins, who chairs the scholarship committee.
The Brunswick County Republican Women (BCRW) awarded two $1,000 scholarships in May. Criteria for the Jackie Iler Scholarship includes an essay on why America is exceptional, grades and other accomplishments.
In 2015, the club received the NCFRW Diamond Achievement Award and the Rise Award. Members attended the state GOP conventions as delegates in 2015 and 2016. The immediate past president has been chosen to attend the national convention as an alternate.
The club attended Legislative Day on April 26 and met with state Sen. Bill Rabon and state Rep. Frank Iler. Club members were recognized at the opening sessions of the House and Senate.
In June, the club voted to help Justice Edmunds in his pursuit to win the primary election by placing an advertisement in the local paper. I asked Justice Edmunds to autograph the ad, which she framed and hung at headquarters.
The club regularly participates in GOP events and fundraisers. On June 18, BCRW sponsored a table at "Juneteenth." This is a diversity outreach event organized by our chaplain, Judge Pauline Hankins, to bring all minorities together for one cause.
BCRW also participated in the Lincoln-Reagan dinner with Lt. Gov. Dan Forest as the guest speaker. Among the presentations of the evening, Betty Warren, one of our original members, was named Republican of the year.
