- Tonya Stiel, President
We are contacting our members to encourage them to recruit their
daughters, daughters-in-law and family members to become our
younger members. A note with a clever jingle is sent to the
person sponsoring a relative, and a note is also sent to the
recipient of the membership. It has produced grand results and
is a unique way to get younger members into the club.
National President Beverly Davis gave us the idea during a
speech. She said the best way to recruit younger members is to
recruit our daughters. Being a mother of three young women, I
agree. This is an easy project that could be utilized by any
club in the nation. We have grown from 23 to 125 in less than
five months. I am proud to announce that we are the third
largest club in the state!
Codington County Republican Women, South Dakota
- Judy Trzynka, President
"We have averaged about 15 members for many years. In November 2005, we composed a letter about Codington County Republican Women. We mailed the letter to 150 women, inviting them to join. The mailing list consisted of women who had been members in the past, volunteers from our local Republican headquarters from the 2004 elections, election board workers, mothers of TARS, and women who attended candidate luncheons.
"By early January, we had 15 renewals and 30 new members.
"Our state president, Marva Parsons, notified us of the annual state meeting to be held in the capital city of Pierre on Feb. 17. A salad luncheon with Gov. Rounds as speaker and dessert and coffee with the First Lady in the new governor's residence were scheduled, in addition to the morning meetings. Normally just the officers attend, but this year we called our new members and those that hadn't joined yet and invited them. We also started calling women that were not on the list. They had to be a member to attend.
"Soon we were organizing car pools for the 14 ladies to attend
the day trip. Our journey involved a three hour drive in cold
winter weather with a wind chill index of -30 to -40 degrees
below zero. We Republicans are a hardy group. By the day of the
state meeting on Feb. 17, we had 58 members.
"We have continued calling and now have 67 members. We will have
a membership table at the Codington County Lincoln Day Dinner on
March 10 to give others the opportunity to join. We will sponsor
candidate forums in preparation for the June primaries and the
November general election. June will also find us helping at the
Republican State Convention to be held at the new Event Center
in Watertown.
"We plan to add more members and retain them by involving them
in activities such as the Native American Angel Tree, Treats for
Troops, and encouraging and supporting our local TAR group.
"We are excited about being Republican Women."
