Linda Ivell, the 2008-2009 President of the Florida Federation of Republican Women, has worked at all levels of political organization from phone banks to managing Congressional campaigns throughout the country, including Georgia, Virginia, Iowa, Texas and, of course, Florida.
She spent many years in Washington, DC, and served there as a press secretary for the United States Congress. “Those years working for Congress were the best learning experience of my life,” remarked Ivell. “I not only learned a lot about the legislative process, but grew to admire the great commitment our leaders have to their job of serving the people.”
Ivell is married to David, a British born engineer who votes for the first time this year as a citizen of the United States. She has two sons, Douglas (17) and Donovan (35), an incredible daughter-in-law, Bonnie, and two grandchildren.
Ivell is a Realtor with Coldwell Banker in Lakeland, Florida, located on the politically significant I-4 corridor between Orlando and Tampa. She served previously as the President of the Republican Women’s Club of Lakeland, one of the largest clubs in the state. She also serves as the Republican Party of Florida State Committeewoman from Polk County, and will begin her term as President of the Bartow Breakfast Rotary Club in June, 2008.
Ivell has begun a “United We Stand” program in the State of Florida, encouraging all Republican candidates to sign an oath to support the party’s nominee regardless of the outcome of the primary in national, state and local elections.
The Florida Federation begins a new tradition this year of welcoming the state legislators back to Tallahassee the first week of March. “We’ve always visited during the session,” remarked Ivell, “but in 2008 we’ll be part of the opening ceremonies.”
In 2009, the National Federation will visit Florida for the Biennial Convention. Planning for the convention, scheduled near Disney in Orlando, has already begun.
