Welcome the Pences to Muncie, Indiana

Delaware County Republican Women members, associates and local Republicans gathered at Muncie’s airport Saturday morning, May 17th, 2019 to welcome VP Mike Pence and his wife Karen. Delaware County Republican Women president Ro Selvey worked with the office of the Vice President to facilitate the event.

Vice President Mike Pence landed at the Delaware County Regional Airport around 8:30 a.m. before heading out to Taylor University to deliver the university’s commencement address. Tony Skinner, an associate member and Delaware County sheriff, who briefly interacted with Pence immediately after he and his wife Karen Pence walked out of Air Force 2, was one of the first to welcome Mr. Pence. They discussed what it was like for the sheriff’s deputies to interact with the secret service, their advanced team, and how smoothly everything went.

There have been a few presidential and vice presidential candidates fly into Muncie. This was the first time in a long time that we have had an actual vice president land in Muncie.

Jessica Piper, DCRW vice president and Delaware County council woman, as well as a lifelong resident of Delaware County was so excited for the vice president visit. Also present was Dan Ridenour, associate club member and Republican mayoral candidate of Muncie described Vice President Pence as a wonderful man who cares about our country.

Bob Ratchford, a local businessman and a club associates, said he is a friend of the Pences. He stated Mr. Pence was grateful that so many people came out to welcome him and loved the warm Hoosier hospitality.

Kaye Whitehead, board member and a Delaware County farmer, and Donna Gilkison, a retired school teacher and form club president were also in attendance. Both club members have known the Pences for a long time. They were thrilled and felt strongly that the Pences have not forgotten where they came from.
