Event Features Elected Officials, 2019 Candidates

Saturday, June 22, 2019, Bull Run Republican Women’s Club held its annual Garden Party at the beautiful home of Dottie and Ken Miller. This year it was co-sponsored by the Barbara Bush Republican Women’s Club.  Both clubs are in Prince William County, Virginia, although one is in the 10th District and the other is in the First.

The Garden Party is an annual event in which the Bull Run RWC invites all Republican representatives in Prince William County, as well as Republican nominees for office. This year there are almost 30 offices up for election, including five Delegates, two State Senators, the Sheriff, the Commonwealth’s Attorney, eight Board of County Supervisors, eight School Board representatives, and three Soil and Water Board representatives. Nearly all candidates attended, as did Congressman Rob Wittman of the 1st Congressional District and Bill Card, chair of the PWC Republican Committee. Almost 90 attended.

The purpose of the event is to meet and get to know the people we will be campaigning, enabling club members to confidently support each candidate. The event also gives club members the opportunity to meet spouses and campaign staffers, improving communication during the campaign.

Bull Run RWC has one member running for delegate, two members running for election/re-election to the Board of Supervisors, one member running for chair of the School Board and one running for School Board. Additionally, one member is the wife of a supervisor.

The Barbara Bush RWC has three members running for delegate, supervisor and school board representative.

Each year, the winner of the $500 Women’s Leadership Scholarship is invited to read her essay to the group. This year’s winner, Ana Reyes, is an amazing young woman who was co-valedictorian, school president, a varsity soccer player, actress of the year for her high school, secretary of the Sacred Life Society, winner of a gold award in a national Latin contest, and a National Merit Commended Scholar. She also placed ninth in a national robotics contest and spent time volunteering as a tutor at her school, a food bank, and the local library. She will be attending the University of Notre Dame this fall.
