Club Elects First Woman to Serve on Dekalb County Board of Education

Carol Hiett is the first woman of Dekalb County to campaign and win an election to serve on the Board of Education. She is also the first classified retired person from the school system to run for a seat and serve on the Board of Education. Dekalb County Republican Women's Club is honored to have Carol as a member and a leader.

Carol is a life-long resident of Dekalb County and resides in Rainsville. She has been married to her husband, Jimmy, for 46 years. They have one son and 3 beautiful granddaughters. Carol attended Plainview High School and Snead State College and went on to obtain certifications from the University of Alabama in School Business and School Payroll/Personnel. She also holds a real estate license.

Carol retired from the Dekalb County Board of Education after 35 years of service. She began her career with the school system in 1985.  She was a school bus driver, school assistance secretary, transportaion secretary, and facilities secretary. 

"Early in my career I decided that one day, if It was God's will, I would run for a seat on our local board of education," Carol said. "In 2018 God showed me it was time to fulfill my dream and do my civic duty to my county.  Throughout the campaign I was at peace knowing God was directing my path. Win or lose, I knew I was doing God's will, and I would be at peace with whatever the outcome was.  Not only did I make many new friends, I also grew stronger as a Christian and a Republican on my journey. The rest is history! God always is a winner."

The Dekalb County Republican Women were encouraging, supportive and instrumental in helping Carol get elected.  Carol now serves on the Dekalb County Board of Education representing District 3.  She is a great supporter of our women's group and the Republican Party.

 Academics mold our students for the future, and sports teach students life skills. That will benefit our communities for years to come.
