Club Backs the Blue with 125 Goody Bags
Members of Upper Northwest Illinois Republican Women donated 125 goody bags to every law enforcement agency in Stephenson County during Back the Blue Week. Goody bags included a variety of homemade cookies, note of appreciation, stress ball, and policeman's prayer.
Back the Blue Committee member Elaine Enriquez elequantly commented on the club project:
"I was so proud of our group yesterday. And honored to be part of it.
"When I was talking to the gentleman at the Sheriff's office about his finding a home for the extra 16 bags, he suggested the courthouse. I said we had just left there. Then he suggested the jail. I told him the jail was being delivered to as we spoke, as was the Police Dept. You could tell he was pretty impressed with the fact that we had really covered all of the law enforcement agencies in our county.
"I love the fact that while the Democrats are spewing their misplaced venom at these men and women who protect and defend our homes and our families, we in our simple act of appreciation and gratitude let our law enforcement ranks know that in our community. We honor them and are grateful for their service.
"People who want to feel important and be the 'movers and the shakers' might try to demean the act of baking cookies, but baking and cooking has always been about love.
"We in our little group each get our 'importance' from the God of all creation. What can any man add to that?
"I am thinking of this quote on my frig about cooking and integrity.
"To cook is to create. And to create well is an act of integrity ... and of faith."
