Club Hosts Ladies of Liberty Afternoon Tea
Onslow County Republican Women's Club of North Carolina held its "Ladies of Liberty" Afternoon Tea Party in July at the historic Avirett-Stephans Plantation. Club members served as table hosts, offering traditional afternoon tea favorites to the guests. Each table was dressed with the personal fine china, crystal, and silverware of its table host.
The event’s underlying spotlight was on our youth. Guests were entertained by the soft classical music of a string ensemble comprised of accomplished teenage musicians. The 2023 recipient of the club’s Nancy Cleveland Memorial Scholarship, Oliva Stoots, was honored.
Catherine Whiteford, outgoing State chairwoman of the North Carolina Federation of Young Republicans and candidate for chair of the National Federation of Young Republicans, was the keynote speaker. Ms. Whiteford offered her insights into the obstacles young conservatives face today – from ostracism at schools, to offensive drama in the workplace and social settings, to the growth of apathy within this group.
With the help of a successful silent auction and 50/50 raffle, the ladies raised funds to support conservative candidates and to send the club’s delegate to the NFRW 42nd Biennial Convention in Oklahoma City.
