There were those who touted the originally proposed changes as a boon to efficiency.
Several Republican women oposed the bill, including Jennifer Lancaster, Lorri Justice, and Pamela Boyd Shields, who all spoke against it in the Senate subcommittee. They feel it would deny Arkansans the right to access information about government officials' spending and conduct.
A year ago, several top cabinet members felt it was one of the most comprehensive and strongest open records and open meetings laws in the country. They both wanted the proposed changes this year.
