Club's Annual Fundraiser Features State Secretary of Education
Hanover Republican Women (VA) held its annual Pearls and Politics Fundraiser on September 26. The historic Hanover Tavern was the venue. Several local businesses sponsored the event, and we were treated to violin music by Johnny Pierre, Jr.
Virginia's Secretary of Education, the Honorable Aimee Guidera, delivered a powerful speech that addressed the learning loss our students suffered as a result of the school shutdowns during Covid. She outlined plans that she and Governor Youngkin are implementing to combat this issue and other setbacks facing our school children and teachers. One of the initiatives to keep our students focused will be "phone-free" learning. Many schools have already put procedures in place to help our students focus on learning and keep their phones out of their hands during instructional time.
