It is already a requirement in the state of Texas. It is one of the questions you have answer on a voter registration form. We can't ask them if they are a citizen or not, but they are supposed to be vetted by our county registrars, and if they signed a voter registration form knowing they are not a citizen, they can be fined.

It's only logical that one must be a citizen of the country before being allowed to vote in that country. You only have a vested interest in the outcome if you are a member of the society, otherwise anarchy rules. The same applies to benefits. If you don't pay into the system, then you should not be getting benefits you never paid for.

Absolutely we should have citizenship established!! It is a right of citizens to vote, not illegals!! How Ca, Maryland and Vermont can allow non citizens to vote is beyond me! They likely are not even paying taxes but using US services to their benefit.

I can’t comprehend why citizenship is even an issue. I thought our federal laws already stated that only legal adult Americans can vote.

You can’t vote if you’re 12 years old.

You can’t vote if you’re a citizen of Japan.

Every American citizen will have access to their birth certificate, maybe also a valid American passport, and all Naturalized citizens have a Naturalization document. It’s not hard to prove citizenship!

Of course I support common sense!

At 66 years old, I still have to show proof that I am over 21 at my local supermarket if I buy a six pack of beer...why are we fighting over the fact we should have to prove we are U.S. citizens to vote?

It makes no sense to me!
