Republican Nominee for U.S. House, Virginia's 7th District
By Terri Goodnow, West Virginia
The first to recognize the “Shining City on a Hill” -- the one fleeing the darkness.
Yesli Vega, the GOP nominee in Virginia's 7th congressional district, is the daughter of Salvadoran immigrants fleeing to the U.S. to escape civil war. Born in Houston, Texas, and raised in Virginia, Yesli has chosen a life of service to her community and to the country she loves – the country that opened its arms to her and her family – America.
Beginning as a street cop in the Alexandria City Police Department, Yesli was daily charged with making split second decisions that directly affected the well-being of her colleagues and fellow citizens. She took a brief hiatus from law enforcement to accompany her husband, Rene, while he was deployed to South Korea with the U.S. Army. Watching the daily threat of Communist North Korea only strengthened her appreciation of the freedoms of America.
Upon her return home, Yesli joined the Manassas Park Police Department achieving the designation of certified hostage negotiator. When an opportunity to serve on the Prince William County’s Crisis Intervention Team presented itself, again Yesli knew she would step up to serve her community.
While Yesli is not a career politician, this is not her first venture into the political world. In 2018, she ran for and won a seat on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors by 13 points in a largely Democratic district. She is a solid conservative Republican, standing firmly on the tenets of our Republican platform advocating for:
- A Strong Military
- Law & Order
- Public Safety
- The Second Amendment
- Low Taxes
- Secure Borders
- Limited & Fiscally Responsible Government
- Parent’s Rights
- Pro Life
- Support for US Constitution
Yesli earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from American Military University and is a graduate of Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy. Married to her high school sweetheart for 15 years, she is the mother of two teen-aged children.
She is a member of the Bull Run Republican Women of Virginia and has been named to the National Republican Congressional Committee's Young Gun list. Her race is rated a toss up by the Cook Political Report. Learn more about her campaign at www.yeslivega.com.
