Republican Nominee for U.S. House, Indiana 1st District

By Nancy Almasi, Virginia

Challenge accepted.

This is not just a campaign slogan – these are words that Jennifer-Ruth Green lives by. She also lives by her commitment to serving her country and to pursuing excellence in anything she undertakes.

When Jennifer-Ruth was a cadet at the U.S. Air Force Academy, she had the honor of meeting Tuskegee Airman Lieutenant Colonel Lee Archer. He was the first African-American pilot to earn an ace designation after shooting down five enemy aircraft and was the only Tuskegee airman to score three aerial victories in a single day of combat during World War II.

Recalling her meeting with Colonel Archer, she said, “He fought for a country that didn’t want him and continued to fight for that country. That is a very big deal. He also said to me, ‘If you don’t stand on our shoulders, who will?’” Jennifer-Ruth still has his autograph preserved in a frame.

Among other things, Colonel Archer encouraged Jennifer-Ruth to pursue a commercial pilot’s license. She is now a commercial pilot as well as a certified flight instructor. She also served as a special agent with the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigation, was deployed to Baghdad as a mission commander for counterintelligence activities for Operation Iraqi Freedom, and worked on a nuclear command post. She currently serves in the Indiana Air National Guard, the first African-American woman and Asian-American woman to do so. (Her father is African-American and her mother is Filipino.)

Challenge Accepted.

Nancy Pelosi tearing up President Trump’s State of the Union speech was a game-changing moment for Jennifer-Ruth. “That (gesture) was a great, devastating blow to our stability as a country,” she said. “That action was more than just political theater. It showed a lack of unity and a loss of confidence in our leaders. She is third in line to the presidency. Our adversaries are emboldened by that, and that puts people’s lives at risk. It was insufferable.”

Pelosi’s brazen disrespect compelled Jennifer-Ruth to run for Congress. She won the Republican nomination this year for Indiana’s CD-1 with 49.2% of the vote in the primary.

Challenge Accepted.

As the Republican nominee for Indiana’s CD-1, Jennifer-Ruth’s priorities include getting inflation under control. “We really need to stop the reckless government spending,” she said. “People can’t afford life right now. Families need immediate relief. We need to do better. That is forefront on my mind.”

Transportation is another issue on Jennifer-Ruth’s mind. “We have four major highways that intersect in Indiana, as well as rail, air, and sea.” She would also like to use her military experience to help pursue an America First foreign policy agenda that focuses on the threat posed by China in all sectors of life. “America is a lens from which we evaluate the world,” she pointed out. If elected, Jennifer-Ruth would like to serve on the House Armed Services and Transportation committees.

Jennifer-Ruth credits the members of her local Republican women’s clubs for the support she is receiving from the grassroots. “They are so integral to this campaign and so excited. Not just my own club (United FRW of Gary), but the Lake County RW and the Porter County RW are also helping. They are making promotional videos, recruiting volunteers, knocking doors, putting up signs – I am so grateful for their sorority. As a candidate, I love how involved they are and their commitment to (winning in November).”

Jennifer-Ruth Green’s message of restoring competence and confidence in Indiana CD-1’s congressional leaders is paying off. She is outraising her Democrat opponent – a long-entrenched incumbent – by two to one. Her list of endorsements is long and includes national leaders like Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Senator Tom Cotton, and Governor Nikki Haley, as well as local leaders such as Hobart Mayor Brian Snedecor and Merillville Police Commissioner Michael Rich. The Cook Political Report and Larry Sabato have switched their predictions for the upcoming election from “Leans Democrat” to “Toss Up.”

Challenge Accepted.
