Congresswoman-Elect, U.S. House, Florida's 13th District
By Rebecca J. Horvath, Tennessee
Anna Paulina Luna has made national headlines for her high-profile endorsements from President Donald Trump, Minority Whip Steve Scalise, former Speaker Newt Gingrich, and Congressman Jim Jordan, but the most important endorsements she can earn are votes from the people of Florida’s 13th congressional district.
It’s familiar territory for the candidate: in 2020, Anna ran for the same office. She received more votes than any Republican ever in the district, but lost a close race to Democrat Charlie Crist. This year, the seat is open after Crist resigned to focus on his own gubernatorial campaign. Five candidates - one Republican, one Democrat, one Libertarian, and two Independents - make it one of the busiest and most unusual ballots in the country.
Anna ’s message stands out for its broad appeal to voters in the well-known Pinellas county district. “I am a candidate that is actually for the people and not special interests in DC,” she says. “I know how to communicate and message to the younger generation as well as specialize in outreach. Our party needs leaders that can carry the torch and bridge the gap to younger voters. I do exactly that. My focus is stopping the radical legislation being pushed by far left progressives. We live in the greatest country in the world, and I will continue to fight for that.”
Featured on the NRCC Young Gun list, Anna is a United States Air Force veteran, entrepreneur, author, and podcast host. She’s also the former National Hispanic Outreach Director for Turning Point USA. Along with her husband, Andy - a war hero who earned both a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart - Anna is involved with five veteran-focused non-profits. She believes serving in Congress would be an extension of her service to our country.
“For both my husband and me, we are not looking at this as just a ‘job.’ This is a continuation of our service. He is working alongside me and supports this very hard journey because he knows what’s on the line. We are both ready to continue to serve our community in DC,” Anna says.
Anna has come a long way from her childhood in Southern California, where she was raised by a single mother in a low-income, high-crime neighborhood. She has life experience with many of the problems everyday Americans face, giving her a unique perspective on how to help them.
In fact, Anna says that’s exactly what sets her apart. “It’s life experience. There are many legislators and politicians who have no idea what it’s like to live through some of the terrible left wing legislation. I’ve lived it. I grew up within the welfare system. I know what policies work and which ones don’t. I served six years in the Air Force and received an honorable discharge. I know much about leadership and sacrifice. That’s exactly what we need in DC.”
As a member of the Pinellas County Federated Republican Women, Anna has also learned just how powerful Republican Women’s teamwork can be. “I am honored to have had the help of Federated Republican Women for door-knocking in the last election cycle,” she says. “We need more strong women in politics, and I know exactly where I can find them: Federated Republican Women!”
With just a few weeks left until the election, Anna is working tirelessly to connect with voters and earn their trust to continue her life of service in Congress.
