Republican Nominee for U.S. House, New Mexico's 3rd District
By Terri Goodnow, West Virginia
Alexis Martinez Johnson is challenging first term Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez in New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District.
Alexis' victory would break the Democrat grip on the 3rd Congressional District for the first time since its establishment 40 years ago and make her the first female Republican to hold the seat.
Born in Portales and raised in Roswell, Alexis embraces the diversity of a border state, yet is a defender of a secure southern border that keeps local New Mexicans, and all Americans, safe while welcoming legal immigrants. She is adamant that the United States government must dictate who comes into our country, not violent cartels.
Alexis is an environmental engineer and consultant who has spent her career working in the Permian Basin, 86,000 square miles of one of the oldest oil and gas producing regions in the country. Her area of expertise is in developing renewable energy that can provide clean, affordable electricity for future generations while protecting family farms and wildlife habitation. She believes careful stewardship of fossil fuels, not elimination of the fossil fuels, is the key to the return of America’s energy independency, and that independence provides good paying jobs to New Mexicans, protects the environment, and plays an integral part in addressing climate change.
Embracing the Republican Platform of smaller government and less government regulation, Alexis stands in total contrast to the gloomy, failed policies of the Biden-Harris Administration. She opposes an overreaching federal government that continues burdening generational farms and ranches with increased regulations. “The future of our country depends on wise choices, not tomorrow, but now,” she says.
Wise choices include supporting parent’s rights in choosing where their children attend school, supporting law enforcement efforts to keep criminals off our streets, supporting our military and caring for our veterans, defending our borders, protecting America’s farmland, and ensuring that all Americans have access to quality, affordable healthcare of their choice. Alexis is also a steadfast supporter of the Second Amendment.
The New Mexico Fraternal Order of Police and Maggie’s List both endorse Alexis’s candidacy. She is included on the National Republican Congressional Committee's Young Gun list.
Alexis earned a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and studied at Vanderbilt University. She is a member of the Santa Fe Federated Republican Women and lives in Santa Fe with her husband, Christopher, and their four children.
