The August meeting of the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women Board of Directors convened on August 10 at Hillwood Country Club to conduct the final business meeting of the year.
Reports from the Executive Committee as well as the Standing chairs were heard. Much information was given through all that was shared. The meeting was adjourned and turned over for the Iris Fund Silent Auction.
In November 1997, the TNFRW Board of Directors established a Political Action Committee (PAC) known as the Barbara McAndrew Iris Fund to provide assistance to Republican candidates who are seeking election to the Tennessee General Assembly.
The guest speaker for the Iris Fund event was Beth Halteman Harwell, who is a member of the board of directors of the Tennessee Valley Authority, former Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives, and former chair of the Tennessee Republican Party. Beth spoke to us about the rich heritage we have because of strong Tennessee women, ranging from Sarah Polk to Pat Summitt. We were reminded that “leadership is about action not position.”
