It also requires us to understand what is so special about the Constitution of the United States, to which every servicemember swears an oath. No mere document is worth dying for, but the ideas, values, and convictions contained within our founding documents are.

On November 10, 1775, a Corps of Marines was created by a resolution of Continental Congress. Since that date thousands of men and women have borne the name "Marine." In their memory, we who are Marines should commemorate the birthday of our corps by calling to mind the glories of its long and illustrious history.
