Dr Constance Jones, NFRW Capitol Regent - Given that I am a graduate degree/MEd licensed & certified K-12 public school teacher, I have been introduced to the educational processes - the public school teachers do have a qualified principal plus in-class room review - according to review, the classroom teacher is $ awarded - also included in this overall teacher review is the continued educational studies, ie Master's Certification; Master's Degree plus - another related $ issue is the public school teaching entrance $ salary being based upon teaching degree plus & teaching years of experience...Reminder re: USA Dept of Education

MED/Master's in Education is based upon English & History coursework - private & regional areas might vary a bit w/i degree coursework requirements - check with college/university & Dept of Educational Regulations....

Most states already increase pay for increased degrees. When we say pay for performance, we generally mean bonuses based on student achievement.

If you are in a high performing school, this is acceptable. If you are in a school where most students are below grade level, this not acceptable. Perhaps a formula based on growth per student per year to date and incentives to increase rate of growth.

You also need to consider students with disabilities where some make very small progress steps and English to Speakers of other Languages students where their first months in school are to learn English so they can learn other subjects.

Absolutely pay/raises should be based on performance like almost every other profession! A teacher may have all the advanced degrees and not be an effective teacher. Performance should rank over degrees.

I voted yes. I like the comment of Sara Snyder above. Testing at week three compared with April testing on reading and math skills would perhaps be a good measure for bonus pay.

Also, if a teacher shows little overall improvement for students in reading and math over the course of three consecutive teaching years, that teacher should be removed.

I also agree that different parameters should be used for special education teachers where progress is not as measurable.

As a life-long teacher, there is no way to really determine a "successful" teacher. Test scores just dot't tell the whole story. Each student is unique and they all need different programs leading to their eventual success in the world.

Without a doubt, compensation and promotions should be based on performance, just as in practically every other industry! Even with all the advanced degrees, a teacher may not be a successful educator. Performance need to come before degrees.

I completely concur. In any field, rewards and advancements should reflect one's performance, and education is no exception. Possessing advanced degrees doesn't guarantee effective teaching. Prioritizing performance over degrees is crucial. Success as an educator should be earned through demonstrable skills and results.
