As an Ob-Gyn practising in a border town, I was called into the hospital emergency room over and over again to deliver babies of Mexican nationals. I was shocked when I first learned that these babies became automatic U.S. citizens! The doctors never got paid, and the taxpayers were on the hook for the hospital bills. These babies are often referred to as "anchor babies," because officials are hesitant to deport illegals who have a child who is a U.S. citizen. This situation needs to change! In spite of many people referring to birthright citizenship as "constitutional," it is not. It will require good lawyers to make the case, and I believe the Supreme Court will rule against birthright citizenship.

I have taught the Constitution if you have taken an oath to the Constitution, you must uphold the reason & meaning of the 14th Amendment

ALTHOUGH I AM NOT SURE IF IT WILL BE UPHELD, I THINK THAT IT SHOULD BE. TOO MANY ILLEGALS COME HERE TO HAVE "ANCHOR BABIES" SO THAT THEY CAN STAY IN THIS COUNTRY ILLEGALLY. JUST AS THE PARENTS ARE ILLEGAL, THE CHILD SHOULD BE ALSO AND CONSIDERED HERE ILLEGALLY UNTIL NATURALIZED.

I am not sure it will be upheld without the Supreme Court clarifying the 14th Amendment and ending the loose interpretation of birthright citizenship. When the amendment with created it never was meant for illegals or travelers/visitors to come to the United States and have a child to secure citizenship and create an illegal pathway for citizenship.

This issue must be resolved and the misinterpretation or loophole closed.

According to the Constitution as well as Founders’ comments when the Amendment 14 was presented, the Supreme Court should agree.

I don't believe an executive order will be upheld but I do think an act of Congress could take care of this problem.

If the parents are here illegally in the United States of America they are not subject to the jurisdiction thereof. You must go through the legal process to be a citizen of the United States. It needs to stop!

Other countries in the world do not do this? Commonsense. No they don't. Coming into this USA without documentation is breaking the law. When persons living in a country they have fought for and family members have died for, protecting our sovereignty, those person have an investment. They have an alliance. Do you have a house, a place to live. Does it have a door? If a woman comes in through that door and has a baby in your house does the baby become the owner or a family member?

I don't believe they should have automatic citizenship because they were born in the U.S. Unfortunately, I don't think the Supreme Court will back Trump. Roberts has been a big disappointment and even Trump's appointees, Kavanaugh and Barrett, have not stood strong on other issues. I believe Thomas and Alito will stand strong. This was not the intent of the 14th Amendment and it needs to be fixed.

I also had a friend that worked at a hospital in a border town in Texas and the pregnant Mexican women would lie and say they were coming across to shop at Walmart (they are allowed to come across to shop) but instead go to the hospital to have their baby.

This ammendment was written to ensure former slaves were made full citizens after thbe as it is currently used.e civil war. It specifically stated it did not cover foreigners or children of diplomats serving in the US. It was never meant to

As noted before, the 14th Amendment was designed to give former slaves citizenship. Anyone born here of non-citizens are citizens of the parents' country of origin, they are not without citizenship in some other country, and are subject to that country's laws upon return, not our laws.

The question is whether a majority of our current Supreme Court justices will reverse the previous incorrect interpretation of the 14th. If the Roe vs. Wade decision could be correctly reversed, it should certainly be possible, but not guaranteed, to establish the correct interpretation of the 14th Amendment at last. This test is long overdue.

I agree with the change of status for birthrights. I think it will take more than the president's signature to get it done. I think it will take a congressional agreement to get it done. Let's hope it passes.

As a small business owner in the insulation industry, I understand the importance of clear, stable regulations that allow businesses to plan for the future. Major legal shifts, like changes to birthright citizenship, can have widespread economic and workforce implications. The insulation trade, like many others, relies on skilled labor, and uncertainty in immigration policies can impact workforce availability. It’ll be interesting to see how the Supreme Court rules and what it means for small businesses. -url= "https://www.aurorainsulationcontractor.com/"]"aurorainsulationcontractor.com/"[/url];
